Tashithang Biodynamic Group, Sarpang

Ingredients grown and processed for the #SecondCampaign are:
Ginger and Turmeric
Tashithang Biodynamic Group was established as a farmers group in 2019 in the southern foothills of Sarpang. The group is very dynamic and comprises of 4 members. They represent different age groups: from educated youths who bring in modern ideas to adult farmers with extensive local knowledge and farming experience.
The Tashithang Biodynamic Group established an organic model farm named Tashithang Farm on around 15 acres of land in the subtropical belt. The group grows on Tashithang Farm organic crops such as ginger, turmeric, cornflowers, soyabean, and various fruit trees. The Tashithang Farm received the EU Organic certificate as one of the first farms in Bhutan.
Ginger has always been a primary cash crop for the people in Tashithang due to its favourable growing conditions in the subtropical belt. But the market situation for ginger has been changing. The primary Indian market has become unreliable and volatile and prices for fresh ginger have been low. Therefore, Tashithang Biodynamic Group ventured into the production of EU-organic certified dried ginger. With financial support by Bhutan Blossoms, Terra Himalaya Pvt. Ltd., Mountain Grassroots Association and Royal Government of Bhutan a ginger and turmeric processing unit was recently established in Tashithang.
